Description

Mountain mahogany makes a fine, evergreen small tree or large shrub. Growth is upright and irregular to 15' tall by 8' wide. Corkscrew shaped fruits develop in fall and winter. This plant can adapt to most any soil, as long as it is well-drained. Distinctive shaggy reddish bark. Long lived, slow growing, Native western USA on dry slopes and mesas 3-9500'. Leaves are russet colored, dark green and wedge shaped.
