This perennial grass grows to about 30" tall. Branches are erect or wavy and red or purple in color. This grass can be found on rocky dry slopes that have been overgrazed or disturbed. It makes poor forage for cattle. Foliage is generally blue-green. Does best in sunny, dry locations and is a prolific reseeder.
